Cheap Flights to Corfu from Australia and New Zealand

air-plane.jpg

There are no direct flights from Australia to Corfu, so your best options are either to fly to Athens, where you can get a connecting domestic flight, or to London where it's possible to pick up a cheap charter flight or package holiday.

In Australia, Olympic Airways has several direct flights to Athens from Sydney and Melbourne via Bangkok, but you usually pay more for the privilege of flying direct. Single-connection routings run by carriers like Qantas and British Airways are slightly cheaper and multi-stop deals with various Asian airlines are cheaper still but obviously take a lot longer. From New Zealand you will have to make at least one connection, likelier two or more, in Australia, Asia or Europe.

Cheap Flights to Corfu from Britain and Ireland

There are no scheduled flights direct to Corfu but, if you are visiting out of season, from outside Europe, or planning to travel more widely in Greece, you may need to fly to the capital, Athens, and find your own way to the island.

At roughly 2000km and three hours by air from London, Corfu is the nearest Greek island to Britain and was one of the earliest destinations for British tourism in Greece. Increasingly, when shopping around for flights, the best deals can be found through Internet sites, which largely cut out the middleman. Classified ads in national papers - the Guardian, Independent, Observer, Sunday Times — as well as Teletext are other useful sources, while local newspapers and listings magazines also carry adverts for companies selling budget flights.

Between May and October, Corfu is well connected by charter flights from British and Irish airports: Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Belfast, Bristol, Cardiff, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Luton, Newcastle, Norwich and Stansted all have charter flights to Corfu at least once a week in summer, as does Dublin.

These flights have fixed and unchangeable outward and return dates, and are usually for one or two weeks, although most operators can offer three or four-week flights for a nominal extra fee. There are also a limited number of charter flights around Christmas and Easter.

Cheap Flights to Corfu from Italy

Corfu offers a wide choice of ferry connections with mainland Greek and Italian ports. From the Greek main-land, there are ferries from Igoumemtsa to Corfu Town and Lefkimi, and from Patra to Corfu Town (always en route to Italy). Ferries operated by a variety of companies connect Corfu with five of Italy's Adriatic ports, of which Brindisi has the shortest and most frequent crossings, espe-daily during the slower winter months.
